Circumcision methods
Vienna's first address for CIRCUMCISIONS!
Medically or religiously indicated:
Circumcision in children and adults

Circumcision techniques:
As in other areas of surgery, there are several methods that a doctor can use for circumcision. The choice also includes painless circumcision with or without sedation (anesthesia without ventilation). Important to know: Circumcision can be performed at any age, including in the newborn period.
In Vienna and most parts of Austria, circumcision for medical reasons and with additional insurance in private clinics or public hospitals within the first year of life is rarely possible. For these cases, we have our own procedure room where infants can be operated on completely pain-free under local anesthesia.
Most hospitals are also not specialized in the various methods or, if at all, offer only a single method. There are up to 300 different methods worldwide, but five to six methods have established themselves globally as sufficiently safe and practical. In many hospitals, this operation is not desired at all and is at most tolerated. This often leads to a lack of empathy and experience, which in turn affects the outcome.
We offer all circumcision techniques that can be expected to yield satisfactory results.
Plastic Ring (Plastibell, Plastic Bell, etc.)
The plastic ring method is particularly popular in the USA in the newborn period due to its rapid and simple execution and other advantages.
However, there are also disadvantages; in particular, it requires a doctor with high experience in this method, as otherwise massive problems can arise.
We introduced the English model, which is better than the American one, several years ago and have successfully applied it hundreds of times.

Gomco
The Gomco method also originates from the USA, where almost all boys are circumcised regardless of religious affiliation, as scientific studies have shown hygienic benefits.
In this method, the foreskin is clamped with a special matching metal instrument for about 10-15 minutes and then resected. Suturing afterward is not absolutely necessary but recommended. The results are similarly beautiful to the plastic ring method.
Here too, sufficient experience and instruments in all sizes are necessary to avoid resecting too much/too little or even injuring the glans.

Stapler
A disposable device for performing a particularly rapid and low-complication circumcision, unfortunately still expensive at present (the device is imported and expensive - approx. €200).
Previous experiences worldwide are promising; it could become the technique of the future. Unfortunately, cheap and dangerous Chinese imitations without European or American approval and with correspondingly high risks are also offered.
The main advantage is the short operating time.
For infants, it is currently mostly not an option, as no correspondingly small device is available on the market.

Surgical Circumcision
In surgical circumcision, still the gold standard today, the foreskin is removed with a scalpel after precise measurement and marking of the resection line, and the individual small blood vessels are coagulated with a special forceps. The edges are then joined together with self-dissolving sutures to achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Usually, experienced surgeons reconstruct or completely preserve the frenulum during this process.
A technically demanding method that requires more time and experience, but probably the safest method and the only one in which the amount of foreskin to be removed can be precisely determined beforehand.

Laser Circumcision
Circumcision with laser technology has not caught on. This is most likely due to the high costs, and the method is also hardly applicable, for example, in small children.
The advantage of the laser is the bloodless cut.
We are not currently using this method until we receive our new laser device.
